Tips For Cleaning a Cutting Board

The last kitchen I managed I had an adorable cook named Debbie. She was a very good worker and one day she brought me a wooden cutting board she had made. It was beautiful and I still have it. I have learned you have to take care of these cutting boards so they will last for years.
Cutting boards are a staple in every kitchen. If you use your cutting boards on a daily basis and you are not cleaning them right they could start smelling like the foods you are cutting on them. Those smells will transfer to other foods as well and that is not good.
Let me give you a some tips that will help you clean and sanitize your cutting boards at home.
Whatever you do, do not put your wood cutting board in the dishwasher. Even if you only used one side of the wooden cutting board to cut on, make sure you clean and scrub both sides of the board.
Cutting Board Care consists of cleaning, sanitizing, and deodorizing on a regular basis. You should wash your cutting board after every use with hot soapy water.  (Dawn works best)
To freshen up your cutting board in between treatments slice a fresh lemon in half and rub onto the surfaces of your cutting board.
After you chop smelly food like onions or garlic, rub half a lemon over the wood to eliminate odor. Lemons are great and they will also help sanitize your board.
Always dry your cutting board right after you clean it. Excess water can get trapped in the grain and produce mold. It could also warp and dry out the wood.
Polish your cutting boards with a coat of Wood Butter. So easy to make and makes great gifts for the chefs in your family.
