Making “Homemade Shake n’ Bake and I Helped”

Through the years I have started making more homemade seasonings. They are just healthier for you and you know exactly what is in them.

Shake-N-Bake has been around for ages, and you can make your own with it’s own special blend of spices and herbs (so much cheaper) and add so much flavor to chicken, and pork chops. The flavors in the seasoning are soooo amazing, and It makes everything so crispy, and delicious.

Homemade Shake n’ Bake is simply a mixture of breadcrumbs, herbs, and seasonings that most of us should have in the pantry.

Make a big batch of the dry ingredients (the breadcrumbs and then seasonings) and store it in a sealed container. Then, when you are ready to bake with it measure 1 1/4 cups of the mixture into a ziptop bag and add 3 tablespoons of oil.

Mix it well and then add your moistened meat that you have dipped in water. (The idea is to get it just a little bit wet so that the breading will stick.)

YOU’LL NEED THE FOLLOWING INGREDIENTS….

  • 2 cups of plain breadcrumbs
  • 2 teaspoons of paprika
  • 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon of celery salt
  • 1 teaspoon of onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon of Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon of garlic salt
  • 1 teaspoon of sea salt
  • 2 teaspoons of black pepper

Making a batch of Homemade Shake & Bake truly is so easy! Just measure and mix is all there is to it!

Homemade Shake & Bake can be stored in the pantry for up to about 3 months.

I always remember when Shake n’ Bake came out and this commercial was shown on the tv’s. Remember the caption…It’s Shake n’ Bake and I Helped?

You will need to pick up some clear plastic bags that are food safe for shaking the meat in the seasoned breading. I use ZipIock bags and they work fine.

TO COOK CHICKEN DO THE FOLLOWING….
Moisten chicken with water. Place breasts in Shake-n-Bake shaker bag. Shake the bag vigorously to coat the chicken. Bake for 20 minutes if boneless, 45 minutes if it does have bones.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups  plain breadcrumbs
  • 2 tsps  paprika
  • 1 tsp  garlic powder
  • 1 tsp  celery salt
  • 1 tsp  onion powder
  • 1 tsp  Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp garlic salt
  • 1 tsp  sea salt
  • 2 tsps  black pepper
  • 1/4 cup  oil
  • 3  pounds chicken

Instructions
 

  • To use it in chicken heat your oven to 400°F.
  • Pour breadcrumbs, paprika, garlic powder, celery salt, onion powder, Italian seasoning, garlic salt, sea salt, black pepper, and oil into a large resealable plastic bag or mixing bowl with a lid.
  • Add a piece of chicken to the bag. Seal it and shake chicken until it is well-coated with your homemade bake mix. Place the chicken in a single layer on a baking sheet and repeat this shaking process with the rest of the chicken.
  • Bake the chicken for 20 minutes. 
  • Remove them from the oven, flip the chicken over, and bake for another 10 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
