This easy Alfredo Sauce will become one of your favorite pasta sauce recipes! It uses inexpensive ingredients that you will want to keep on hand!

Alfredo sauce is a white creamy sauce made from a combination of heavy whipping cream, butter, Parmesan cheese, and herbs or spices like, Italian seasoning, parsley or extra garlic plus salt to taste.

Although Alfredo sauce as we know it is more of an American favorite, legend has it that Alfred di Lelio, a Roman chef, invented it. It’s based on another simple pasta sauce, cacio e pepe, which combines Pecorino Romano cheese, butter and hot pasta water.

Making this classic sauce from scratch is so much better than buying it in the jar. Jarred sauces, dry mixes, and storing partially prepped food is always a good idea!

You’ll need these SIMPLE INGREDIENTS to make this BASIC ALFREDO SAUCE…..

  • Parmesan Cheese (grated)
  • Cornstarch
  • Garlic salt
  • Black pepper
  • Onion powder
  • Heavy cream
  • Garlic cloves
  • White American Cheese (optional but makes super creamy sauce!)

Ever wonder what’s the difference between White Sauce and Alfredo Sauce?

The answer to this question is that white sauce and alfredo sauce are not the same things. Alfredo sauce is an Italian sauce that is produced with butter, heavy cream, and parmesan cheese. White sauce, which is also known as béchamel, is a creamy French sauce that is made by combining roux and milk.

This will be a recipe that you make again and again. This is the perfect sauce for your favorite pasta!
